I've never fully understood that verse before. It seemed distant. One of those verses about seeking the Kingdom of God and never being fully home until we are with Him in heaven. A little hard to grasp when are still meant to dwell here for the time being, and we often have homes. Not houses, homes.
A concept that is sometimes hard to explain in languages other than English. But a home.
And as I prepare to head back to the States, I found new meaning in this verse. Yes, my home is eternally fixed with Christ in glory. But for now, it's actually ok to not have one singular place to call home.
I have many. I'm at home sitting on the beach at Breach Inlet, running the dirt road at my parents' place, driving the interstate between GA and SC. I can feel at home anywhere as long as I'm next to one of my best friends. I'm at home here in the little living room of my apartment in Chisinau too. It's sunny and cool and familiar.
Christ grew up in a family. In a sense he had a home; at least he had a hometown. But He traveled throughout the country. He went where He was led. He didn't look back, and He didn't grieve and complain about the journey.
This is what I'm learning from that passage: that I can have many homes, many places to stay and many places I feel safe but it's always about the focus. Are my eyes on Christ? Do I move forward embracing each moment in each place trusting that He is leading me?
This is my journey. Now is simply the time to move from one home to the next.
